Dhemaji School Teacher Weaves 45 Foot long Gamosa

Guwahati: A weaver from Jonai, Dhemaji named Jinu Chutia Baruah has crafted the Socio and Cultural history of Assam on a 45 foot long Gamosa. The 45 foot long Gamosa includes the names of 68 renowned personalities of Assam Sahitya Sabha and encrypted pictures of some eminent political leaders. Gamosa is an indispensable part of Assamese life and culture with its distinctive symbolic significance. 

Earlier in 2016, Jinu Chutia Baruah made an effort to bring out the rich culture of Assam by printing 36 Borgeets of Mahapurush Srimanta Shankardeva and 10 evergreen Assamese songs of late Legendry singer of Assam Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on a 18 foot long Gamosa.  

By profession Baruah is a teacher in a private school.

Without any kind of government support Jinu Chutia Baruah saved fifty thousand rupees for weaving Gamosas. The Gamosa was showcased on Tuesday in Assam Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.  She was praised by the members of Assam Sahitya Sabha for her contribution towards the culture and history of Assam.

In a press release Parmananada Rajbongshi, President, Assam Sahitya Sabha stated that the 45 foot long Gamosa will be again showcased in the Sualkuchi session of the Sabha.
