The outlawed anti-talks faction of the ULFA — the ULFA (Independent) — has claimed responsibility for Wednesday grenade blast in Guwahati.
ULFA (I) chief Paresh Baruah owned up responsibility for the blast near the ‘Guwahati Central’ shopping mall at the RG Baruah Road in a telephone call made to News Live Chief Managing Editor Syed Zarir Hussain from an undisclosed location.

The ULFA (I) chief said the target of the explosion was security forces and espressed regret over injuries suffered by civilians in the explosion.
Incidentally, Guwahati City Police have arrested a pro-talk ULFA leader named Pranamoy Rajguru along with a TV actress named Jahnabi Saikia in connection with the explosion.
The television actress was initially detained Thursday (May 16) afternoon after police seized several explosive materials, including a gadget used in making grenades, after raiding the house she had taken for rent in Panjabari locality of Guwahati.
The raid took place at House number 10, Baghorbari, Masjid Gali, Panjabari. Police, accompanied by a team of forensic experts, had also seized a pistol, 25 rounds of ammunition, besides 45 kg of explosives from the residence of the actress.
