PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Two illegal citizens were arrested in Sipajhar on Monday. The accused brothers had come to enlist their names in the National Register of Citizens and had visited the NRC centre near the Sipajhar Circle Office.

The duo have been identified as Saijuddin Ali and Abdul Khaleq from Bangladesh.

The brothers had tried to provide their identification as residents of Kirakara under Sipajhar police station.

They had earlier been identified as Bangladeshi citizens in 2018 by a Foreigners’ Tribunal in Mangaldai and were ordered to be deported.

The Border Police were also on their lookout as they had been absconding and trying to enlist their names in the NRC.
