Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday evening to update him on the ongoing NRC exercise besides seeking central cooperation to ensure that there is no law and order situation at any point of time.
While the Supreme Court is firm on publication of the NRC within the latest deadline set by it, which is August 31, the state government is taking all possible steps to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order post publication of NRC.
While, there was no statement released, Sonowal is understood to have sought additional central paramilitary forces to tackle any possible situation after the publication of NRC.
Following the meeting with Shah, Sonowal said the entire exercise has been carried put peacefully with cooperation from the people of the State and to ensure that similar atmosphere prevails in future, the Union Home Minister has assured full cooperation.
