AASU protests Union Fertilizer Minister’s visit to Namrup

PUBLISHED:

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Thursday opposed Union Chemicals & Fertilizer Minister DV Sadananda Gowda’s visit to Namrup protesting what the students’ body said was the failure of the government to set up the fourth unit at the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizers Corporation Limited (BVFCL).

Incidentally, AASU’s protests comes hours before the visit of the Union Minister which is being seen as very crucial amid the long-standing demand for setting up of the fourth unit of the industry.

It may be mentioned here that Ram Vilas Paswan, the then Union Fertilizers Minister, had announced the setting up of the fourth plan during his visit to the industrial town in 2006. However, successive governments have for 13 long years done very little to translate the announcement into reality.
