Angry groups of supporters with frayed tempers were involved in a fisticuff outside Rajiv Bhavan after results of Assam Youth Congress elections were declared today (June 27).
Supporters of Swabhab Choudhury (son of senior party leader Wajed Ali Choudhury) allegedly entered into a brawl with Munmun Haque whom the former defeated in elections for the post of president of Dhubri District Youth Congress. Munmun had earlier accused Swabhab and his supporters of using money and muscle power to win the elections.

Police and CISF personnel had to intervene to bring the situation under control.
Earlier in the day, Kamrul Islam Choudhury was elected president of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, defeating eight other candidates that included former State NSUI president Mrinal Hazarika and Late Anjan Dutta’s daughter Ankita. On the other hand, Abhijit Bora was elected general secretary.
The incident in Guwahati comes a day after an observer was assaulted by supporters of candidates at Mangaldai yesterday (June 26).
