Assam: Won’t give up seats to BJP we won in 2016, says AGP president Atul Bora

Guwahati: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) who is a coalition partner with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam has clarified that it’s not going to give up those seats it won in 2016. The AGP had contested on 30 seats and was victorious in 14 seats in the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016. The BJP on the other hand won 60 seats of the 89 it contested.

On Wednesday, AGP President Atul Bora attending a political meeting in Khumtai called on the party workers to get ready for the upcoming Assembly elections due in April-May, 2021.

Bora said, “The party is still as strong as ever. The party is galloping its speed like a horse and AGP will never give up their existing seats to the BJP.”

The AGP president said that the present politics is the politics of alliances and alliance is all about standing equally. Bora also criticized the alliance which is based on selfish motives.

Atul Bora added that the alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF is a strange alliance as time is over for both the parties. The people of Assam must determine who is an enemy and who is an ally.

“If by any chance these two parties come into power, they will create a second Kaliyuga era and that’s what the people should be careful about,” said the AGP party president.

Reacting to the resignation of the central secretary of the Khumtai party and the other 16 panchayats of the party, Atul Bora clarified that only a section of people have left AGP. “We have more new blood coming into the party. The party has become stronger. Though there are many lobbies that are conspiring against AGP, the people of Assam know it very well and will decide who is good and who is bad,” said Bora.
