Guwahati: In a shocking act of animal cruelty, a gang of five to six men allegedly killed a wild buffalo, which strayed from the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve on Tuesday.
The incident came to light after officials of the Biswanath Wildlife Division received a tip-off that some men were consuming wild animal meat in Balidubi area in the Biswanath district.
A forest team led by Iqbal Hussain in collaboration with the district police arrested a man named Rahmat Ali from Balidubi area and seized the body and skin of a wild buffalo.
As per the preliminary investigation, the Biswanath Forest Division claimed that the meat-hungry people had allegedly run over a tractor on wild buffalo and then mercilessly stabbed the voiceless animal with a sharp weapon.
The prime accused in the case identified as Hazrat Ali was reported absconding.
Meanwhile, the tractor used in the crime has also been seized by the Biswanath forest division.
