GUWAHATI: A woman and a man were killed, and one seriously injured in a firing incident at Kharnaidisa near Dhansiri, Diphu, Karbi Anglong in Assam.
According to sources, three unidentified people came in and opened fire at a party (Bisu, a Dimasa celebration) on Wednesday night at around 11:30 PM. Following the incident, a man and a woman died on the spot and another man was seriously injured in the incident. The man identified as Ashish Thonlosa is currently undergoing treatment at the Diphu Medical College.
The two deceased have been identified as Alota Maibongsa(40), Amit Nunisa, former member and area commandant of a local militant group.
According to Assam Police sources, a militant group DNLA is associated with the killing.
“We were singing and dancing. My brother Amit, he also wanted to sing and was waiting for his turn. He was about to eat rice and the plate was in his hand. Suddenly, we heard a loud noise, I thought it was the sound of a firecracker and saw Amit fall down in the bonfire,” said Amit’s sister.
“We were having dinner. We heard a loud sound and came running and saw they were already dead,” said a woman present at the celebration.
