Assam, Tripura among fastest moving 10 states in SDG index: NITI Aayog report

Two northeastern states–Assam and Tripura are among the top ten fastest-moving states as per the NITI Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index.

In the front-runner category are 32 states and union territories, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Tripura, and Mizoram.

It was not until last year that Manipur, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh were in the front-runner category.

According to a recent assessment of the SDGs produced by Niti Ayog, these three states are among the ten states and union territories that have made considerable progress toward meeting the objectives and have moved into the front-runner category.

Mizoram and Manipur have scored 72 each, followed by Tripura (71), Arunachal Pradesh (65), Assam (65), Meghalaya (63), and Nagaland (63).

Scores of Sikkim increased by 18, Assam and Tripura by 16 each.

With a score of 100, Assam and Mizoram have also achieved the “affordable and clean energy” goal. Manipur scored 88, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura scored 74.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya and Nagaland’s performance in achieving this goal is poor, with scores of 62 and 50, respectively.

Regarding the Zero Hunger goal, Mizoram, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh are in the front-runner category, scoring between 65 and 99, while Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland are in the performer category. Assam scored poorly with just 47, reported the Times of India.

For the climate action goal, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland are in the front-runner category, while Tripura, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh are in the performer category, with scores ranging from 50 to 64.
