GUWAHATI: A town in Assam has been observing total lockdown to contain COVID-19 pandemic though the country moves towards unlocking. Donkamukam in West Karbi Anglong district has been placed under complete lockdown for seven days. Donkamukam Municipality Board has issued an order of lockdown from June 17 to June 23.
“The traders in our town bring the goods from Hojai which is badly infected with COVID-19. West Karbi Anglong district has also witnessed several cases. People in large number gather at Donkamukam as many important establishments including circle office, banks are situated here. So we have not found any alternative, but to impose lockdown to ensure social distancing,” said a functionary of Donkamukam Municipality Board.
The town has witnessed complete shutdown of business establishments and shops as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. Vehicular movement has also been suspended till June 23.
