Kalita also urged the people of Assam  to not light too many diyas as the price of edible oil and other items are soaring high in the state.

Speaking to the media Kalita said, “If someone have lighten 50 earthen lamps earlier, this year they can lit 10 diyas and celebrate the festival.”

“I also urge the people to avoid the Chinese products and go for local products. People can lit diyas and celebrate Diwali in a peaceful manner as Diwali is the celebration of lights, peace and unity”, added Kalita.

Lighting an earthen lamp is the quintessential part of celebrating Diwali. The tradition has been in existence since ages.
