Assam: Rhino attack leaves one dead in Majuli

Guwahati:  In a tragic incident, one person was killed after a rhino reportedly attacked him in Assam’s Majuli district today.

The incident took place in the river island’s Samaguri early in the morning where the man was attacked by the angry beast right in front of his house.

The deceased person has been identified as Madan Das.

After the attack, Das was immediately admitted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

It is to be noted that the rhino had ventured out of the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) almost two months ago and still roaming around the region.

However, till date, the forest department has been unsuccessful in driving the rhino back into Kaziranga.

It may be mentioned that in a similar incident on January 2021, a forest department personnel identified as Moheshwar Hazarika was killed in a rhino attack inside the Kaziranga National Park.

Hazarika who was a game watcher in KNPTR attacked by a rhino while on night duty at the Siga highland in the Agoratoli range of the national park.
