Assam Reports 591 Fresh COVID-19 Cases, 4 deaths

Guwahati:  total of 591 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Assam on Wednesday (January 5).

Among the new cases, the highest number of cases were reported from Kamrup Metro (279), Kamrup Rural (54), Hojai (31) and Jorhat (23).

The new cases were detected out of 34,314 tests that were conducted during the day.

The test positivity rate in the state was recorded at 1.72% per cent on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, four new COVID-19 related death were reported in the state during the day.

According to NHM Assam, the fresh fatalities were reported from Tinsukia (2), Barpeta (1) and Sonitpur (1).

Further, 196 patients recovered on January 5. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state stands at 98.47 per cent.

Earlier on Tuesday (January 4), 475 COVID-19 cases were reported in the state including 190 cases from Kamrup Metro district.

In the last 10 days, Kamrup Metro district has reported 1,075 new COVID-19 cases.

According to data released by NHM, Assam on 5th January, 6,22,488 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the State so far. Out of which, 6,12,988 patients have recovered, while 6,174 patients passed away.

The total number of active cases in the state now stands at 1,979.

Over 2.67 crore COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the state so far.

As many as 3,82,76,016 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Assam so far. This includes 2,21,41,719 persons administered with the first dose and 1,61,34,297 administered both doses of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Assam reported its first two cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19. This was informed by Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta on Wednesday evening.
