Assam reports 3,386 new COVID-19 cases, 36 fresh fatalities

Guwahati: Assam’s COVID-19 tally rose to 4,69,976 on Wednesday as 3,386 more people tested positive for the infection, while 36 fresh fatalities pushed the states coronavirus death toll to 4,064, National Health Mission bulletin said.

Sonitpur district reported the highest number of new cases at 282, followed by 244 in Tinsukia, 224 in Cachar, 205 in Jorhat, and 158 in Kamrup Metro.

Tinsukia reported the highest number of fresh fatalities at five, followed by three each in Kamrup Metro and Sonitpur while Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Cachar, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong, Morigaon, Nagaon, and Udalguri reported two deaths each.

Bishwanath, Darrang, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, and Sivasagar reported one death each, the bulletin said.

The current death rate is 0.86 per cent and the number of COVID-19 positive patients dying due to other causes is 1,347.

The state now has 38,306 active cases, while 4,26,259 people have been cured of the disease thus far, including 4,881 in the last 24 hours.

The recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state stands at 90.70 per cent.

The state has vaccinated 49,96,934 people, of whom 9,79,966 have received both doses. PTI
