Assam: Renowned linguist Dr. Ramesh Pathak no more

GUWAHATI: Eminent linguist, educationist, Sahityacharya Dr. Ramesh Pathak is no more. Pathak, a former professor of Department of Assamese at Cotton College breathed his last on Tuesday evening at his Hatigaon residence in Guwahati. He was 79.

Prof. Pathak made immense contributions to Assamese literature and language with several monumental works. He was honoured with ‘Sahityacharya’ title by Asom Sahitya Sabha. Publication Board Assam has recently conferred him with Lifetime Achievement Award 2020.

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and health, finance, education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled Pathak’s demise. 

“I express deep sorrow over noted linguist, educationist, Sahityacharya Dr. Ramesh Pathak’s demise…..” Sonowal tweeted.

Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed Prof. Pathak’s death as an irreparable loss to Assamese language and literature.
