Assam remembers Bhupen Da on 7th death anniversary

Rich tributes were paid to Asom Ratna ‘Xudhakontho’ Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his seventh death anniversary.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid his tributes to the iconic singer, music composer, film-maker at the Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra at Jalukbari in Guwahati and asked people to spread the music maestro’s message of peace, amity and brotherhood besides announcing the government’s decision to build another memorial cum museum near the Dhola-Sadiya bridge to keep his legacy alive.

The Northeast Sammanay Kshetra will be constructed on a 300-bigha plot of land near the Bhupen Hazarika Setu as the bridge has been named.

“I request everybody to follow Bhupen da’s ideals and spread the message of peace, amity and brotherhood among all sections of the people. Our Government has already decided to convert his house in Kolkata and Kuthori into memorials where people can learn more about him and keep his legacy alive,” Chief Minister Sonowal said after offering tributes at the Samadhi Kshetra in Guwahati.

“Since Dr Bhupen Hazarika was popular not just in Assam but across the Northeast along with West Bengal and other parts of the country, our Government has decided to build a Northeast Sammanay Kshetra in his memory on a 300-bigha plot of land near the Bhupen Hazarika Setu,” he added.

Meanwhile, various programmes have been organized across the State with people offering their tributes to Bhupen Hazarika. The All Assam Students’ Union has also organized a special programme at Dighalipukhuri to offer tributes to ‘Xudhakontho’.
