Nation remembers Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika on 13th death anniversary

GUWAHATI, Nov 5: Tributes are being paid to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, fondly addressed as ‘Xudhakontho’, on his 13th death anniversary with various programmes organized across Assam and in other parts of the country, even abroad, in remembrance of the ‘Bard of the Brahmaputra’.

Born in Sadiya on Sep 8, 1926, Dr Hazarika passed away at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai on November 5, 2011.

His immortal songs reverberated the air across the State while people thronged the Bhupen Hazarika Samadhikshetra at Jalukbari where he was laid to rest to offer ploral tributes.

Various singers are also remembering him through his immortal songs as competitions are also being organized at various places in his rememberance and to keep alive his legacy.

Various political leaders also took to the social media to pay their respects to the evergreen balladier.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered his tributes to the legendary singer and music composer saying “the maestro contributed to strengthening Bharat’s unity by manifesting the greatness of our cultures and languages through his music”.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also offered his tributes to ‘Xudhakontho’.

“The Bard of Brahmaputra, the legend of Assam, the Bharat Ratna, Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika lives immortal in the hearts of everyone in Assam and beyond.

His magical voice and meaningful lyrics have stirred the emotions of listeners for years and provided a deep sense of connect with the true beauty of Assam.

On his punyatithi today, I pay my tributes to one of the greatest artistes of our State,” he wrote on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.
