Assam records highest single-day spike, tally jumps to 11001


GUWAHATI: With 1202 new COVID-19 cases, Assam recorded highest single-day spike on Saturday. The spike took the state count to 11001. Among the new cases reported on Saturday, 777 cases are from Guwahati only which is the biggest number city has witnessed so far.

Besides Kamrup (Metropolitan) district which is under lockdown due to the surge of COVID-19 cases, conditions of several other districts have also emerged as a matter of grave concern for the concerned authorities.

Earlier, Assam witnessed a surge of cases among the incoming people from different states. However most of the recent cases are associated with the people who have no travel history. Majority of COVID-19 cases in Guwahati are of the people with no travel history which raises concern over community transmission.

Meanwhile, Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has requested everyone to be extra vigilant due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.
