GUWAHATI: Re-polling is underway in four centres in three constituencies of Assam as per the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) direction. The polling started at 7:00 AM and will end at 6:00 PM today.
The four centres are Indira MV School (Right) in Ratabari constituency, 109th Central Dhanehari LP School in Sonai constituency, LP School at Haflong constituency in Dima Hasao district and 107 (a) Of Haflong constituency of Dima Hasao district and Mualdam LP School.
It may be recalled that there were allegations of disturbances in these centres. On the basis of that, the Election Commission had ordered re-polling in all the four constituencies on April 10.
It is to be noted that the total number of voters in LP School constituency at 107 (a) Khothli in Haflong constituency is 90, But 181 people cast their votes. Five officers in charge of the constituency were immediately suspended after the Election Commission detected the discrepancy. Presiding Officer and first polling officials admitted that some voters registered at the main centre of 107 Mualdam LP School were allowed to vote at 107 (a) Khothli centre.
Similarly, after the polling was held at Indira MV School centre 149 in Ratabari constituency, tension prevailed over the recovery of EVM in an MLA candidate’s wife’s car.
Lastly, firing took place at 463 Central Dhanehari LP School in the Sonai constituency during polling.
