GUWAHATI: Several organisations and prominent personalities protested against the proposal of Miya Museum at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, the epitome of Assamese culture in Guwahati. Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed who had made the proposal at a standing committee meeting of Assam Legislative Assembly received condemnation from different quarters of the society across the state.
Satradhikar of Majuli Adhar Satra has expressed his resentment against the Congress legislator for showing audacity to disrespect Srimanta Sankardeva, the harbinger of Assamese culture and literature.
“The Kalakshetra is named after our Vaishnavite Guru. Such proposal from an honourable MLA is really shameful. We are aggrieved,” said the Satradhikar.
On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists burnt the effigy of MLA Sherman Ali at Nalbari.
“Land of Satras was encroached during the Congress rule. Now MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed wants to set-up Miya Museum at Sankardeva Kalakshetra. He should immediately appologise,” said a protester.
