GUWAHATI: With the ongoing vaccination drive against COVID19 receiving a good response, Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta has assured that Assam is ready to fight the third wave of COVID19. The state has augmented its resources and the health department is ready for the third wave, said the minister.
Speaking to reporters in Bokakhat, Keshab Mahanta informed that work for setting up of Pediatric Intensive Care Units (P-ICU) has started in all the Medical Colleges of Assam. Also, all district hospitals will have Pediatric ICUs. Though there is very little data on how the third wave will affect the children, the health department is doing all it can to prevent any kind of escalation. The Central Government has already ordered the states to prepare for the third wave. Keeping the order in mind, Assam has already started work to ready one thousand Pediatric ICU beds, said Mahanta.
Work has started to equip each district hospital with 10 P-ICU beds. According to health commissioner secretary, Anurag Goyal, in another 6 to 8 weeks, P-ICU will be ready in many locations of Assam.
The health minister also informed that women who lost their husbands due to COVID19 will receive an amount of Rs. 2.5 lakh under Chief Minister’s special scheme.
