GUWAHATI: Incumbent Tezpur MLA Brindaban Goswami has withdrawn his nomination for the assembly poll in Assam. Goswami who was deprived of an AGP ticket filed his nomination as an independent candidate.
The regional party fielded Prithbiraj Rabha for the Tezpur seat replacing Goswami, one of the founder leaders of the AGP.
Aggrieved with the party decision, Brindaban Goswami decided to contest election as an independent candidate.
“The central leadership fielded a candidate who is not even a party member. They violated the principles of the party and discussed nothing with the party workers,” Goswami said.
On Friday, the senior leader withdrew his candidature.
