Assam Police Seizes Heroin Worth Rs 4 Crore at ISBT, Four Arrested

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Assam Police Seizes Heroin – In a major success in Assam’s fight against drug trafficking, Guwahati Assam Police has seized heroin worth around Rs 4 crore from a bus at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Guwahati. The big operation happened on Friday and Saturday, after police received a specific tip-off.

The bus, with registration number AR 11 B 8912, had arrived from Aizawl, Mizoram. Based on the intelligence input, police officers stopped the vehicle and carried out a detailed search. During the operation, they found 35 packets of heroin weighing about 455 grams. The heroin was hidden inside the bus but without any complex packaging, which shows a change in how traffickers are trying to move drugs these days.

Police arrested four people connected to the smuggling case:

  • Md Sahabuddin: Bus driver, from Nagaon district
  • Safiur Rahman: Conductor, from Goalpara district
  • Uttam Nath: Handyman, from Bokolia
  • Jiaur Rahman: Alleged smuggler and intended recipient, from Barpeta

All four are now in police custody. The heroin was reportedly meant to be distributed in parts of Lower Assam, including Rangia and Hajo. Sources say the arrested persons were promised a huge amount of money to transport the drugs. The bus has also been seized.

This bust is being seen as part of a larger network of drug trafficking routes operating between Mizoram and Assam, and possibly connected to international networks through Myanmar. A senior police officer confirmed that the heroin likely came through cross-border routes, highlighting how big and serious this issue is.

The case will be registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The Assam Police, under the strong leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been actively cracking down on drug mafias.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the police on X (formerly Twitter) for their continuous strong anti-drug drive. He said the Modi government is committed to a drug-free India and will not stop until every drug cartel is destroyed. He also appreciated the joint efforts of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Assam Police, and CRPF for their roles in the successful operation.

This seizure is not an isolated incident but a part of continuous operations in the Northeast, which is a sensitive zone for drug trafficking. The central government has ordered a full-force approach to remove drugs from the region.

As investigations continue, police are now working to trace the entire supply chain and find out if there are more people involved, including any links to international smuggling routes. Assam Police’s quick action is being praised by many, and people are hopeful that such strong steps will bring peace and safety to the region.

This case shows how drug trafficking remains a serious threat, but also how united efforts by law enforcement can break these dangerous networks. Assam is standing strong in this fight against drugs.
