Assam Police quizzes Congress leader Ripun Bora over Gaurav Gogoi’s Pak links

An SIT of Assam Police formed to probe Gaurav Gogoi and his wife Elizabeth’s Pakistan links quizzed Ripun Bora for 4 hours

Assam Congress leader Ripun Bora was on Thursday (May 29) quizzed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police in connection with the issue of newly-appointed APCC president and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan links.

“I was quizzed by the SIT for nearly 4 hours. The investigating officers asked me many questions and I answered what I know,” Borah said.

Bora, former president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), had claimed on Sunday during an interaction with media persons that Gaurav Gogoi’s British wife Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi was on the payroll of the Pakistan Government.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had said after Ripun Bora’s presser that police will quiz him since he appears to know a lot about Gaurav Gogoi and his wife’s ISI and Pakistan links.

The SIT was formed in February to probe into the relations Gaurav Gogoi and more particularly his wife Elizabeth had with Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, an advisor of the Pakistan Planning Commission who had worked closely with Elizabeth.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma has been accusing the Congress MP and his wife of maintaining links with the Pakistani establishment besides also alleging that while Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan and stayed in the enemy nation for 15 days without informing the Indian government, his wife used to draw salary from Pakistan even after quitting her job in Islamabad.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma also said that both the minor children of Gaurav and Elizabeth are not Indian nationals and that the citizenship of the elder child was changed from Indian to British while Elizabeth has not accepted Indian citizenship and continues to remain a British national even a decade after her marriage with Gaurav Gogoi.
