Assam Police officer caught red handed for accepting bribe, arrested

PUBLISHED:

In continuation of its relentless drive against corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption team of the Assam Police on Wednesday (January 3) arrested the Sub-Inspector of Rangia Police Station in Kamrup district on charges of taking bribe.

The arrested official has been identified as Ibotombi Singh, SI (UB), of Rangia Police Station.

Reportedly, a complaint was received by the anti-corruption department alleging that SI Ibotombi Singh had demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe from the complainant to meet traveling and other expenses that would be incurred for deposing as a witness in a Departmental Proceeding initiated against the complainant. Later, the SI reduced the bribe amount to Rs 5,500.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the directorate for taking necessary legal action against the police official.

Accordingly, a trap was laid by the anti-corruption department at the Rangia Police Station and SI Ibotombi Singh was caught red-handed immediately after he accepted Rs 5,000 as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant.

Meanwhile, necessary legal action has been taken against SI Ibotombi Singh.

“Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed SI (UB) Ibotombi Singh of Rangia PS, Kamrup after he accepted demanded bribe in the PS campus from the complainant for deposing as witness in Departmental Proceeding initiated against the complainant,” the anti-corruption department posted on X (formerly Twitter).
