Guwahati: In the run-up to the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the narcotics supply chain has become active in Guwahati. In a recent drive against this deadly business in Guwahati, Assam Police arrested 4 suppliers from Hatigaon area.
The suppliers were arrested with large quantities of drugs and two suppliers along with drugs and cash.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Farooq Ahmed alias Muktar Shahrukh (23) of Barpeta district from Ganeshguri and also seized Rs 6.42 lakh in cash and 12 grams of heroin from him.
The CID also seized a Maruti Suzuki Swift car bearing registration number AS-01EM-3155 and a mobile phone from the accused.
On interrogation Farooq provided many inputs. The Assam Police team later on launched a search operation at City Centre hotel in Ganeshguri area and arrested a woman named Kasmais who hails from Manipur. The CID busted this entire racket which this woman from Manipur had been operating for quite some time now.
It is to be mentioned that Farooq used to buy drugs from Kasmais and would sell it in the city.
On the other hand, 15 days ago, a young man had confessed to the police that he had bought about 300 grams of heroin from the woman. Assam Police has launched an investigation into the matter and are continuing their investigation.
