Assam Police launches statewide crackdown on illegal beef sale

Assam Police launched raids at several hotels across the State as part of their crackdown on illegal sale and consumption of beef

Assam Police on Tuesday launched a massive crackdown on illegal beef sale, conducting raids at various places, including hotels reportedly storing and selling beef.

Kokrajhar police conducted raids at four hotels — Muslim Hotel, Dadaji Hotel, Amir Bhai Hotel, and Alif Hotel — located near the main market area of Kokrajhar town, following information regarding the possession of cow meat.

During the raid, police reportedly seized both cooked and uncooked meat suspected to be beef from the premises.

Police said legal action will be initiated as per provisions of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021.

Raids were also conducted at several hotels in Kotahbari locality of Guwahati and recovered around 70 kg of beef.

Police also took one person into their custody for his involvement in storing and selling of beef.

Gossaigaon Police also conducted raids at various hotels for illegally selling beef. Raids were conducted at Bismillah Hotel, Jannat Hotel and Rahman Hotel from which meat, suspected to be beef, was seized.

As part of the statewide crackdown on beef, raids were also conducted in four hotels in Mangaldai town. While police recovered several kilograms of beef from the hotels, two persons were also picked up for questioning.

Raids were also launched at Nagaon town, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Demow, Hajo, Barpeta, and Bijoynagar in South Kamrup.
