Assam Police launches drive against people roaming without masks, levies Rs. 1000 fine

GUWAHATI: Wearing of face masks have been made mandatory due to the surge in COVID19 cases in Assam. To create awareness and keep the public safe the Assam Police has launched a drive against people roaming around without donning masks. A fine of up to Rs. 1000 has been levied on people found without masks. Assam Police officials also distributed masks to people during the drive.

In Morigaon, public announcement of COVID19 continued on the streets and Assam Police teams led by Superintendent of Police Dr. Nanda Singh booked many people for not wearing masks. The drive started in the morning in the town and police were seen acting strict on people who were not following the protocol.

The SP was himself present in the drive. Talking to News Live Dr. Nanda Singh said, “We have started to impose fines on those people who were found not wearing masks. As per the government order we have started this drive. I have been present here since morning and monitoring the process.”

“I urge the people that if they remain safe the country and the society remains safe. So by keeping oneself safe they perform their duty as responsible citizens. The country is above everyone and so if people break the law we will take strict action,” said Dr. Nanda Singh.

In Morigaon district from 1st April till 18th April 2021, a total of 39 people have been found COVID19 positive. Though at the moment the situation is a bit under control but if the people are not alert and cautious the situation might turn grave in Morigaon in coming days.
