Assam Police clamps down on drunken driving, slaps fines, cancel licenses

Guwahati: In line with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s appeal to the people of the state to refrain from drinking and driving, authorities in Assam have now launched a massive operation across Guwahati to keep a check on drink and drive cases.

On Sunday evening the traffic police of Guwahati were seen checking drivers in prime areas of the city, namely Six Mile, Zoo Road, and others using breath analysers.

Those found guilty were fined up to Rs 10,000. And not just this, the police even removed the black films from the window panes of the vehicles.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister has been maintaining time and again that cases of drunk driving will not be tolerated in the state.

Additionally, he even directed police personnel to closely monitor such cases in the ongoing festive season, particularly on December 31.
