Assam Police becomes 10th state police force to receive prestigious President’s colour award

Guwahati: The Assam Police has become only the 10th State Police force in the country to receive the prestigious President’s Colour Award.

The Assam Police will be awarded the President’s Colours Award by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at an event in Guwahati on May 10.

The President’s Colour Award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon any military unit of India. It is also known as ‘Nishaan’ which is an emblem that will be worn by all unit officers on the left-hand sleeve of their uniform.

DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that it is a historic moment for the Assam Police and that the department is fully gearing up for the event.

Motorcycle rallies will be organised in each district of Assam to make the people of the state aware of the prestigious ‘Colour’. Special flag will also be designed for the day.

“Assam Police makes History! @AssamPolice has become only the 10th State Police force in the country to receive the prestigious PRESIDENT’S COLOUR. This is true testament to Assam police’s commitment towards performance, professionalism, integrity & above all service to humanity,” DGP Mahanta said in a tweet on Thursday (April 28).


“To celebrate this momentous occasion, we are kicking off a two week state wide celebratory program from tomorrow onwards. Looking forward to your active participation in this program. We will be posting here regularly, so please watch this space…,” he added.
