GUWAHATI: Oil India Limited successfully organized ‘Saksham Cyclothon’ in four cities across Assam on Sunday. Over 1000 cyclists joined the bike rally in Guwahati, Jorhat, Nagaon and Tezpur in Assam. This was part of the awareness drive seeking citizens to actively participate in fuel conservation for health & environmental protection and to help in reducing India’s dependency on the import of crude oil.
In Guwahati, over 500 cyclists participated in the rally. The response in the other cities were equally overwhelming with Jorhat having over 300 cyclists, Nagaon had over 170 participants and Tezpur had almost 150 cyclists.
The theme for this year was “Green and Clean Energy”. OIL Saksham Cyclothons was organized at Guwahati, Jorhat, Nagaon and Tezpur on 31st of January 2021.
Saksham 2021 was organized under the guidance of the Petroleum Conservation Research Authority(PCRA), a registered society set up under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India.
In Guwahati, Pankaj Goswami, Director (operations) flagged off the cyclothon in the presence of other OIL officials including Executive Director (Pipeline Services) K.T Varkey, Chief General Manager (Pipeline Services) Sandip Goswami, Chief General Manager – PLM Shyamal Choudhury, and Chief General Manager- Administration Shri Arunjyoti Baruah.
Renowned Journalist Pranay Bordoloi along with well-known fitness guru and bodybuilder Mahadev Deka graced the occasion with their presence in the event.
The program included taking the Saksham Pledge and was followed by a Zumba session.
All COVID-19 protocols including wearing masks, social distancing was followed during the event.
The Cyclothon was organized with the support of an NGO called Pedal for a Change and local cycling groups like Guwahati Cycling Community, Nagaon Cyclists, Tezpur Cyclers and Jorhat Cycling Community in the respective cities.
