GUWAHATI, Jan 1: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the State is making rapid strides on the economic front and is on track to becoming a million economy.
Chief Minister Dr Sarma was speaking at his customary interaction with journalists and eminent personalities on New Year’s day at the Koinadhora State Guest House in Guwahati.
He said that Assam will become a million economy by 2028.
He also spoke at length about the achievements of his government, especially during the past 12 months, and said that his government has repaid all loans taken by the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in Assam and that the State is debt-free till 2014.
He also spoke on a number of other key issues besides and said, while responding to a question, that attempted influx of Bangladeshi nationals through Tripura and Assam has been on the increase but said not even a single Hindu Bangladeshi has been arrested while trying to enter India illegally.
He said nearly a thousand Bangladeshi infiltrators have been held and later pushed back to their country in 2024.
