Assam: New SOP for COVID-19 to be released today

Guwahati: In the wake of the surge in Covid cases, a new COVID19 Standard Operating Procedure  (SOP) will be released today, January 7. This was stated by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will brief the press today at 3:00 PM about the new SOP in the state. 

With the new SOP release the curfew timing might change along with other rules and required restrictions in various sectors including travel and education.

A review meeting was held by Chief Minister Sarma yesterday evening with top officials of the government to take stock of the Covid scenario for the state. He reiterated that there is no question of enforcing a lockdown at the moment.

However, those who have not been vaccinated so far will face a few restrictions.

CM Sarma also said that following of Covid appropriate behaviour is the need of the hour.

Significantly, the Assam CM said that there is no plan whatsoever to close markets at the moment. He also allayed fears of a curtailed Bihu celebration.

Meanwhile, Assam has registered 844 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours. As many as 369 cases have been reported from Kamrup metro. The positivity rate, meanwhile, has risen to 2.37%.

All 844 cases have been detected after 35,562 tests. It may be mentioned that 591 cases were reported yesterday, of which 279 were from Kamrup Metro.
