Assam: Nalbari COVID-19 positive patients are from Uttar Pradesh

GUWAHATI: The number of Coronavirus positive cases in Assam has increased to 20 with three new cases reported from Nalbari and one from South Salmara. It was announced by Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma through his official twitter handle on Friday.

Notably, the three persons from Nalbari who have tested COVID-19 positive are residents of Uttar Pradesh. They are Md. Rizwan, Md. Shahrukh and Md. Hamid.

These three persons came to Assam on March 22 after attending the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi and were staying at a Madrassa in Nalbari.

On the other hand, the person from South Salmara who tested positive for COVID-19 has been identified as Ashraf Ali.

“They are members of the Tablighi Jamaat and were in Nalbari to teach the villagers in a masjid. There are many more who arrived in Assam on 21st and 22nd March and we are searching for them,” said Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

All these four are associated with the Nizamuddin Markaz event.
