GUWAHATI: A 13-year old girl who had returned to Assam following a heart surgery in Mumbai tested COVID-19 positive on May 14. Though her mother tested negative, she refused to leave her COVID-19 positive daughter. Bowing to the motherly love, the Assam health department for the first time allowed a COVID-19 negative person to stay with a positive patient in one room at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati.

The girl was discharged from GMCH on Monday after her recovery. Miraculously, the mother who stayed with the patient for 11 days also tested negative.

“We have tested her mother twice and both times she tested negative despite staying with her COVID-19 positive daughter,” said Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma following the discharge of the patient

“This is an extraordinary example of motherly love,” Sarma heaped respects for the mother who despite very knowing very well that she has high chance of getting infected with the virus and refused to part with her COVID-19 positive daughter.
