Two unidentified bike borne miscreants on Wednesday evening lobbed a grenade near the army’s Kopahtoli Company Operating Base (COB) last evening in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
According to sources, the incident occurred at around 8 pm.
Tinsukia Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhijit Gaurav visited the blast site and took stock of the situation.
SP Dilip informed the media that there is no report of any casualty in the incident.
“Two bike-borne miscreants lobbed the grenade near an army camp. Our investigation is on,” Gaurav Abhijit Dilip said.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched a massive manhunt to track down the suspected Ulfa (Independent) cadres who lobbed a grenade targeting the army camp on Wednesday.
Army columns had fanned out in search of the militants in order to prevent them from carrying out further subversive acts.
Army sources said that road blockades have been placed towards Namsai and Kakopathar and CCTV footage from the area is being scanned.
The sources said that although the two motorcycle borne youths had tried to lob the grenade targeting the camp, primarily due to the alertness of the on duty sentries, the grenade missed the target which prevented from any kind of desired impact.
It is to be mentioned that it was earlier reported a couple of days back that as the winter sets in, militant groups have become desperate to sneak into Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Assam districts to carry out extortion and to purchase arms and ammunition and collect dry ration for their cadres based in the camps of Myanmar.
