Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a massive fire broke out at Goalpara civil hospital on Friday morning. The fire broke out at the paediatric ICU ward of the hospital where several infants were kept.
Reportedly, a few infants have also sustained burn injuries in the fire and some have been admitted at the Goalpara Nursing Home.
A total of 14 newborns were in the ICU ward when the fire broke out.
The fire tenders reached the spot immediately and doused the flame before it could spread any further.
It is being suspected that the fire broke out due to an electrical short circuit.
All the infants have been shifted to another ward in the meantime.
Goalpara district deputy commissioner Meenakshi Das Nath reached the hospital and took stock of the situation.
Local MLA A.K. Rashid Alam also rushed to the spot after getting the news.
