Assam: Man dupes women by promising loan under govt scheme, arrested

Guwahati: The Assam Police on Saturday nabbed a man for allegedly cheating a number of women in the name of Women and Child Welfare scheme.
 
The accused has been identified as one Tankeswar Saikia of Naojan, Silapathar under Golaghat district. Tankeswar and his aides have looted around Rs. 1 Lakh from the women using this fraud scheme.
 
According to reports, Tankeswar has been running this fraud for a long time now. He used to take Rs. 250 from each women in the locality as a registration fee and assured them of providing a loan of Rs. 5 lakh. As he didn’t provide any receipt against the registration fee, the people got suspicious and informed the police.
 
It is to be mentioned that two more persons involved with Tankeswar are on the run.
