Assam looks towards Japan for Earthquake Warning System

GUWAHATI: Following the 6.7-magnitude earthquake in Assam on Wednesday, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has instructed the senior government officials to talk with countries like Japan to install an Earthquake Warning System in the State.

Chairing a meeting with the senior officers in Guwahati on Thursday, the chief minister urged them to create mass awareness on how to co-exist with earthquakes and disseminate necessary information through different media platforms.

“I have asked officials to talk with countries like Japan for installation of an Earthquake Warning System in Assam, urged them to create mass awareness on how to co-exist with earthquakes and disseminate information regarding Do’s & Don’ts through popular broadcast mediums,” Sonowal tweeted.

He also urged the officials to prepare a Damage Assessment Report of all buildings affected by the tremors.
