Assam launches 24X7 Cybercrime helpline

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed about the newly launched 24×7 Cybercrime helpline phone number and the Cyber Forensic Lab cum testing centre.

The Cyber Forensic Lab cum testing centre has been set up at CID HQ as a part of the Cyber Crime Prevention against Woman and Children(CCWC) scheme. It is a major boost for the Assam Police to effectively tackle the increasing cybercrime cases in Assam.

The Chief Minister Tweeted, “Cybercrime is a global threat. In a strong step against the menace, today we launched a 24X7 helpline no 155260 in Assam.
Cyber fraud victims may immediately call this number to block further transfer of the lost money and retrieve it.”

“s part of our endeavour, ‘Cybercrime first responder kits’ were also distributed among police officers by @DGPAssamPolice. 245 such portable kits procured at Rs 33.16 cr under MOITRI will be used by Investigating Officers at the crime scenes,” Dr. Sarma added.

“A Cyber Forensic Lab cum Training Centre set up at CID HQ as part of Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCWC) scheme was also opened today.
The lab with state-of-the-art facilities will boost our fight against #cybercrime,” the Chief Minister further Tweeted.

Assam Police DGP, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta launched the Cyber Forensic Lab cum Training centre and the Citizen Financial Cyber Reporting and Management System. The helpline number is 155260.

Also, the Cyber Crime First Responder Kits have been distributed to police stations of Police Commissionerate in Guwahati by Assam Police DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

Following the launch, Bhaskar Jyoti Maanta Tweeted, “Today, dedicated the Cyber Forensic Lab cum Training Center and Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting & Management System (helpline no. 155260) to the people of Assam.
Cyber Crime First Responder Kits were also distributed to police stations of Police Commissionerate, Guwahati.”

“In Assam, a large no of people fall victim to cyber fraud, people lose their entire savings, by the time they report it to police. To tackle this issue, a 24X7 help desk has been set up with helpline number 155260 in CID. This is the need of the hour,” Mahanta added.

DGP Mahanta further Tweeted, “These above mentioned three initiatives would go a long way in improving the capabilities of Assam Police in handling cyber crimes cases and delivery of services to citizens.#CyberCrimeAwareness #CyberFraud #cybersafety @himantabiswa @CMOfficeAssam @HMOIndia.”

 

  • Cyber Forensic lab cum training centre:

The newly launched lab is a part of the CCPWC(Cybercrime Prevention Against Women and Children) scheme. It has been set up at a cost of Rs. 3,92,99,900. The lab has various types of machinery including disk forensics, GPS forensics, malware analyzer, etc. The lab will ensure the proper collection and preservation of digital evidence related to cyber-crime.

  • Cybercrime first responder kits:

Assam Government has procured 245 responder kits for 245 Police Stations at a cost of Rs. 33,16,55,520. The investigating teams will use these highly advanced kits to identify, collect and preserve digital evidence.

  • Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud reporting and management system:

One can raise a complaint about any cyber fraud/theft through this helpline number. If a victim of financial cybercrime wants to register a complaint or needs help regarding any fraud can call the number and report the crime and get help.

 

Here is how to register a Cyber Crime Complaint:

  • Write a complain narrating the whole incident –Brief history is to be mentioned. Supporting documents if any is to be attached. The FIR is to submitted at nearest police station addressing to office in-charge of that P.S. requesting to take needful action.
  • Submit the following documents along with the complaint.

Social Media Gift Fraud case:

Take screen print of all the objectionable photographs and get signed by the complainant. The URL(Uniform Resource Locator) must be visible in the screen print.

  •    Provide the money deposit counter foil slip in bank  and get signed.

Online Banking Fraud case:

  • The complainant update his Bank Pass Book and give Photo copy of the last page during which crime has taken place and the first page where Name and Account No is available and get it signed by the complainant.

ATM Phishing Fraud case:

  • Collect the Mobile No from which call has come to provide ATM Numbers and PIN numbers.
  • The complainant update his Bank Pass Book and give Photo copy of the last page during which crime has taken place and the first page where Name and Account No is available and get it signed by the complainant.

Lottery Fraud case:

  •  Provide the Mobile No from which lottery message has come, also download the lottery message.
  •  Provide the money deposit counter foil slip in bank  and get signed.

ATM Fraud by changing ATM Card case:

  • The complainant update his Bank Pass Book and give Photo copy of the last page during which crime has taken place and the first page where Name and Account No is available and get it signed by the complainant.
