GUWAHATI: With over 90 per cent of land and forest areas in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park flooded by rainwater, 123 wild animals, including 12 rhinos, have died due to flood. The dead includes 93 deers, four wild buffaloes, and others.
Animals strayed into nearby villages and higher locations due to flood and in search of food.

On friday a deer was rescued by forest officials with the help of local residents. The deer strayed into a village and was attacked by a dog.
“The deer was roaming around in the garden and a stray dog attacked the deer. We saw the incident. we immediately informed the forest department and rescued the deer,” said a local resident.
Following incessant rains in the past few days, the water level of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries have been increasing, turning the current flood situation in Assam worse.
