GUWAHATI: After a man from Assam’s Karimganj district tested positive for Coronavirus at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), Hailakandi district administration has sealed off all the inter-district borders it shares with Karimganj and Cachar districts.

The man who is the first Coronavirus patient in Assam is from Badarpur under Karimganj district and currently treated at SMCH in Cachar.

The patiently reportedly attended a wedding ceremony at New Township of Cachar Paper Mill in Hailakandi district.

Following the developments, the district administration has been keeping strong vigil across the inter-state borders in Hailakandi. The inter-state border with Mizoram was sealed off earlier.

District administration and Hailakandi Police have been leaving no stone unturned to enforce the lockdown in its letter and spirit.

“We noticed that many people in Hailakandi were not very aware of the lockdown. Since the positive case has been detected in the nearby district and inter-district borders have been sealed, we hope complete lockdown will be observed,” said a local doctor.
