Guwahati: A wild buffalo that had been creating fear and panic in the Biswanath region has been finally shot dead by the Assam Forest Department. Officials shot the wild buffalo dead in a field, early morning. The wild animal had attacked and killed one Sukur Ali in Biswanath on Friday. This was the second death in the area caused by the beast.

“When we received information that one more person had died due to the wild buffalo’s attack we immediately arrived at the spot. A search operation was initiated and finally, it was located. First, we tried to push it off towards the forest as our first priority is to protect the wild animals. But it chased us back and we had no option but to shoot at it,” said a Forest Officer.

“As the community fishing is ongoing at the Burapahar area the animal might have migrated to this side of the river as there is no such habitat for wild buffaloes here,” said an Assam Forest Department official.

The wild animal had attacked and killed one Jayanta Das on Thursday that had created public anger in Biswanath. Angry locals vandalised an Assam Forest Department office and a vehicle was also burnt.
