Assam: Hotels, circuit houses to be used as quarantine centres

GUWAHATI: All the hotels, government guest houses, circuit houses or tourist lodges available in every district will be used as the COVID-19 quarantine centres, said Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday.

Addressing a press meet in Guwahati, minister Sarma said, “We have given a permission to the deputy commissioners (DC) today to hire all the hotels available in a district headquarter. Tourist lodges, inspection bungalows (IB) and circuit houses under the Government of Assam will also be used as quarantine centres. All these   facilities will be in requisition on rent.”

Dr. Sarma has stated that at first phase government has been trying to provide single room with attached toilet to the people coming from other states.

Furthermore, the government has decided to lift paid quarantine facility at hotels except Hotel Radisson Blu and Taj Vivanta in Guwahati.

He also mentioned that senior citizens above 75 years of age, family accompanying below 10-year old kids, pregnant lady and differently abled persons will be allowed to go home.

“But the head of the family has to give a written undertaking that the entire home will be under containment for next 14 days. The district administration will provide food to such families for 14 days according to the necessities,” Sarma added.
