Assam Hizbul terrorist Qamar-uz-Zaman arrested in UP

Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Wednesday arrested Hizbul terrorist Qamar-uz-Zaman, a resident of Jamunamukh in Assam, for planning to carry out terror strikes in the State during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Qamar, who had earlier posted a photograph of him in social networking site facebook in which he claimed to have joined the dreaded terrorist organization, was arrested from Kanpur’s Chakeri area.

“The arrested terrorist has been identified as Qamar-uz-Zaman (37), a resident of Assam, and is an active member of Hizbul Mujahideen,” Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh said.

UP Police said they arrested Qamar-uz-Zaman after tracking him for the past 8-10 days following inputs from the NIA.

Meanwhile, the arrested terrorist’s mother reiterated before News Live at their home at Jamunamukh that she wants the harshest of punishment for her son for his involvement in anti-national activities.

He had left for Jammu and Kashmir and had reportedly opened a shop there before joining Hizbul.

Meanwhile, a police team from Assam had left for Uttar Pradesh after they were informed about the arrest by their Uttar Pradesh counterparts.
