Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma intensifies BJP’s poll campaign

GUWAHATI: Senior BJP leader and Assam minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been intensifying BJP’s campaign for the first phase of Assam assembly elections. The three-phase Assam polls will begin from March 27.

Each day, Dr. Sarma has been attending multiple rallies which receive massive support from the BJP workers and well-wishers.

On Sunday, Sarma’s campaign trail started from Moran in Dibrugarh district. He began his day by offering prayers at Naliapool Ganesh Temple at Dibrugarh.

Addressing a public meeting in Moran, the NEDA convenor said, “In Assam, we don’t need Madrasas, we need medical, engineering colleges. Congress and AIUDF will destroy Assam. We have to save our state.”

“Along with the central government’s initiatives, we promise to build houses for the people. We also promise to take steps to combat the flood menace in Moran. The welfare of the people is paramount for us,” Himanta Biswa Sarma assured the gathering.

He also highlighted various developmental initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led government in the last five years.

“To save our culture, we must re-elect the Bharatiya Janata Party government,” he added.

Later, Dr. Sarma attended a meeting at Sonari followed by a grand road show.

The senior BJP leader also addressed an election rally at Mahmora. In his speech, he urged the voters to cast their votes in favour of minister and Mahmora BJP candidate Jogen Mohan.

“You have to choose between the development of BJP and communalism of Congress-AIUDF,” he said.

Dr. Sarma vociferously attacked Badruddin Ajmal for his controversial stand on population control.

His other programmes for the day include-public meeting at Doomdooma and Pad Yatra at Tinsukia.
