GUWAHATI: To check the stock of food grains in the state amid COVID-19 lockdown, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday visited Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns at New Guwahati and Changsari. Sonowal interacted with the officials and labourers of the FCI to understand their preparedness to deal with the situation arising out of Coronavirus outbreak.
Speaking to media persons, CM Sonowal said, “Assam has more than 2 months of food stock available at the moment. Assam Government has decided to provide 5 KG free rice to the homeless people and the families who do not have a ration card.”
The chief minister also ordered the FCI officials to check profiteering and hoarding of essential food items so that no one can make undue profit at this hour of crisis. He has also asked Northeast Frontier Railway to maintain unabated flow of food grains to FCI, Guwahati.
