Assam Govt will not take any individual decision on lockdown: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Amid speculation over lifting or extension of 21-day nationwide lockdown necessitated by Coronavirus outbreak, Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government will not take any individual decision, but will implement the directives of the central government in its letter and spirit.

Speaking to media persons on Tuesday minister Sarma said, “The cabinet has taken decision that the Assam Government will not issue any directive on lockdown. It will not give any order to the deputy commissioners (DC). They should follow the directives of the central government keeping in mind the aspect of social distancing.”

“We will discuss the orders of the central committee on lockdown in the cabinet meeting to be held on March 13. We will take decision in the cabinet meeting. Assam Government will follow the orders of the central government in letter and spirit,” Dr. Sarma said.

He also stated that decisions to open any particular industry or business establishment will not be taken by the state cabinet or chief secretary, but it will depend on the communication between the DCs and the central government.
