GUWAHATI: The Assam government will be using people’s power to strengthen the state. Speaking at the Assam Legislative Assembly, chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that the present government is moving ahead to empower more people with MGNREGA jobs through various ways. The chief minister said that the government is trying to inculcate work culture in the state by training the youth and providing them with opportunities.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that people can use the MGNREGA money to plant trees that will benefit them in future.

“We will be allowing a major component in MGNREGA through which people can plant Chandan, Agar trees in their home using the scheme’s funds. We are seriously taking the lack of jobs in the villages and so have decided in the cabinet meeting to allow planting of Chandan and Agar trees and Som and Sumani trees,” informed chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The chief minister also suggested that the government will soon talk with the tea garden managers on how to best employ the ‘faltu laborers’ (additional staff) through MGNREGA.
